Abstract The article assesses the effectiveness of the functioning of the financial equalization system in Ukraine. The authors of the article developed the indicator of the level of efficiency of the equilibrium procedures, calculated on the basis of the ratio of Gini coefficients to the revenues of local budgets with and without intergovernmental transfers. Using the Gini coefficient, the authors quantified the success of the financial equalization mechanism.
